The Chief of General Staff of the Israeli Army, Aviv Kochavi, warned the European countries of the repercussions of the International Criminal Court’s decision to open an investigation into crimes in Palestine.
Kochavi said during a visit accompanied by the head of the entity to Germany, that opening criminal cases may also face European countries because it targets democratic countries and limits their ability to defend themselves, according to Safa translation.
He claimed during his meeting with German President Frank Wolter that "the court's decision constitutes a serious violation of the ability of the democratic countries to operate on the battlefield in front of terrorist armies hiding behind the population."
The Israeli occupation army is the most moral in wars and that it refrains from harming civilians, Kochavi claimed.
He added that the era of modern warfare is complicated and the criminal court has to adapt itself to that.
He pointed out the possibility of European soldiers being prosecuted due to their role in other regions of the world.
Kochavi called on Europe to reject the court's decisions from now on.
The head of the entity, Reuven Rivlin, said that Israel will continue to protect and support its soldiers and will not allow their trial.
