The National People's Congress of Jerusalem called on the international community to take urgent action to prevent Israel from infringing upon the candidates of Jerusalem and to not obstruct the holding of elections in the city, without which the democratic process will not take place.
The Congress said in a statement that the serious battle for sovereignty over Jerusalem actually began yesterday when the Israeli authorities prevented a press conference for Fatah candidates and the rest of the national factions for the legislative elections and arrested three of them.
The gathering of the Jerusalemites towards the Palestinian National Movement candidates for the upcoming elections and their response to the Israeli aggression confirms that Jerusalem is Arab in its passion, identity, and all attempts by Israel to Judaize it will fail and be destroyed by the steadfastness of the Jerusalemites.
The general secretariat of the Congress said: "Jerusalem is an occupied city according to international law and there is no sovereignty over it, and our people have the right to exercise their right to vote, nominate and campaign, as was the case in the previous elections."
