18% of Gaza detainees in Israeli jails suffer from chronic diseases

At least 18% of Gaza detainees, who number approximately 255 detainees, suffer from chronic diseases, according to Hassan Qanita, the head of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Committee in the Southern Governorates.

Qanita confirmed that the detainees are subjected to flagrant violations that contradict all international norms and health principles such as the right to health care and the right to get the highest possible level of health as well as protection from dangerous illnesses.

Also, he confirmed that they suffer from the lack of regular laboratory check-ups and depriving them of getting the necessary medical treatment.

Qanita called on all human rights organizations to pressure Israel to save the lives of the Palestinian detainees held in its jails and to abide by the articles of the Third and Fourth Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law.
