Trump Seeks Congressional Approval for $1 Billion Arms Sale to Israel

The Trump administration has requested congressional approval for a new $1 billion arms sale to Israel, including thousands of bombs and military equipment, reinforcing Washington’s ongoing support for Israel’s actions in Palestine. The deal includes 4,700 bombs exceeding 450 kg, worth over $700 million, alongside Caterpillar armoured bulldozers valued at more than $300 million.

This sale would be funded through the annual $3.8 billion military aid package the U.S. provides to Israel. The proposed arms transfer comes as Netanyahu visits Washington to discuss Gaza ceasefire talks and regional tensions. He is also pushing for the acceleration of an earlier $8 billion arms request and has met with Elon Musk to discuss AI collaboration.

According to The Washington Post, U.S. tech firms have worked closely with Israel, granting early access to advanced AI services during the initial weeks of the war on Gaza. Between October 2023 and October 2024, Israel received a record $17.9 billion in U.S. arms.

While Biden previously delayed some weapons shipments over humanitarian concerns, Trump recently lifted restrictions on 2,000-pound bombs, defending the move by stating that Israel had already paid for them. Over 47,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the war began, with more than 900 killed in the West Bank.
