Hamas Spokesperson: Disarming the Resistance Is a Red Line

The spokesperson for the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Abdel Latif al-Qanou, declared that the resistance’s weapons are a "red line" and that disarmament is not an option. In an interview with Al Jazeera on Wednesday, he stated that amendments to the first phase of the ceasefire agreement were made to serve the interests of the Palestinian people and reaffirm Hamas' commitment to advancing the second phase of negotiations.

Al-Qanou stressed that a full withdrawal of Israeli forces and a permanent ceasefire are the two key conditions for proceeding with the next phase of the deal. He affirmed that Hamas is prepared to immediately release all Israeli captives if these demands are met. He also asserted that the governance of Gaza remains a Palestinian issue and that no external interference will be tolerated.

He accused Israel of seeking to secure the release of its captives without making concessions, insisting that such an outcome is unrealistic. He acknowledged the difficulties facing the second phase of negotiations but reiterated that Hamas' demands align with the interests of the Palestinian people and build upon the achievements of the initial ceasefire phase.

The Hamas spokesperson also highlighted the urgent need for prefabricated homes, equipment, and essential aid in Gaza, stating that delivering these necessities remains a priority for the movement.
