The Israeli occupation authorities are set to release 628 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for six Israeli prisoners and the bodies of four other prisoners, as part of the first phase of a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas and a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, scheduled for Saturday.
The secret appendix of the agreement, which has not been made public, includes the release of 50 women and minors (under 19) from Gaza, who were arrested by Israeli forces during their ground operation. These individuals are described by Israel as "not directly involved in combat or the events of October 7."
According to the Israeli radio, only 23 to 25 women and minors will be released in this batch, as Israel will receive half of the bodies scheduled for this phase, with the other half to be delivered next week.
Overall, Saturday’s batch will include the release of 628 Palestinian prisoners, including:
- 50 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment.
- 47 prisoners who were re-arrested after being freed in the "Gilad Shalit deal" (also known as the "Wafa al-Ahrar" deal).
- 445 male prisoners from Gaza, all of whom were arrested during the recent ground operation.
