The Khan Yunis Municipality in southern Gaza has urgently appealed to donor organizations and the international community to allow the entry of maintenance equipment to repair sewage networks destroyed by Israeli forces during the ongoing war on Gaza. The municipality also called for heavy machinery to remove rubble and reopen blocked streets.
In a statement issued today, the Emergency Committee of Khan Yunis Municipality revealed that Israeli attacks targeted the city’s service infrastructure, destroying 24 machines used for water, sewage, and sanitation services, as well as 100,000 meters of sewage pipelines and main networks.
The committee emphasized that the destruction has worsened the daily suffering of residents, with sewage overflowing into streets due to repeated attacks on residential areas and service systems. This has led to the spread of deadly diseases and epidemics among the population.
Despite efforts to mitigate the damage and protect citizens from health risks, the municipality stated that it lacks the necessary equipment to address the crisis. The remaining machinery is either damaged or outdated, with no spare parts available for repairs.
The Khan Yunis Municipality urged donor organizations to intervene immediately by providing modern machinery and bulldozers to clear rubble and begin the reconstruction of Gaza. The appeal highlights the urgent need to restore basic services and prevent further humanitarian suffering in the region.
