Escalation in the West Bank: Israeli Raid on Nablus Leaves Over 30 Dead and Injured

Israeli forces launched a deadly raid on the city of Nablus, killing 34-year-old Tariq Qasim al-Qassas and injuring more than 30 others. Medical reports confirm that he succumbed to a severe gunshot wound to the chest near the western cemetery of Nablus. The attack marked the third Israeli incursion into the city within 24 hours, further intensifying violence across the occupied West Bank.

During the assault, Israeli troops fired live bullets and tear gas at Palestinians, wounding several and causing widespread suffocation cases. Reports indicate that soldiers attempted to seize an injured Palestinian from an ambulance after shooting him. Elsewhere, Israeli forces stormed villages surrounding Nablus, attacking homes, schools, and civilians. A 75-year-old woman in Osarin suffered severe complications after inhaling toxic gas, while students in al-Lubban al-Sharqiya were pursued and targeted with stun grenades, leaving many injured and traumatised.

The ongoing Israeli offensive in the West Bank, which began on 21 January, has resulted in mass arrests, home demolitions, and a sharp rise in casualties. Since 7 October, at least 923 Palestinians have been killed across the West Bank, while in Gaza, the death toll has soared to 48,348, with over 111,761 wounded, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Despite inflicting mass devastation and targeting civilians, Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire after failing to achieve its stated objectives. The truce, which took effect on 19 January, came after mounting losses and international pressure, exposing the brutal reality of Israel’s military aggression against the Palestinian people.
