Horrific testimonies of minors in Israeli prisons

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority lawyers transmitted horrific testimonies of minor prisoners who are currently languishing in the Israeli Megiddo prison, in which they gave details of the torture and cruel treatment they were subjected to during their brutal arrests and the Israeli investigations.

In a statement received Monday by Safa, the authority quoted the testimony, Muhammad Shaheen (17), from Dheisheh camp in Bethlehem, who was arrested after the Israeli forces stormed his home at dawn.

“One of the Israeli soldiers attacked and pushed me against the wall, hit me violently, and then the soldiers took me outside and entered me into the military jeep and along the way they did not stop hitting and slapping me,” the minor prisoner said.

He added that he was transferred to the Israeli Petah Tikva investigation center, where he was subjected to an investigation that lasted for many hours while he was lying in a small chair. During the investigation, he was not spared beatings and insults. Moreover, they used to turn on the cold air conditioner inside the cell; to force him to confess to the charges against him.

“I was detained in dirty, dark and cold cells for 16 days, during which I endured very bad conditions , and later I was transferred to Megiddo Prison, where I am now,” Shaheen stated.

The Commission’s lawyers also reported the testimony of the minor prisoner, Karam Shabita (17), from the town of Azzun, Qalqilya district, who was subjected to abuse during his arrest by Israeli soldiers after raiding his house and breaking the entrance door.

Shabita said, the Israeli soldiers took me outside my house, and beat me arbitrarily with their hands, feet, and rifle butts, and then they pushed me into the military jeep and transported me to the military camp in the "Tasufim" settlement and there they held me for many hours. Later I was transferred to Al-Jalameh investigation center where I underwent a harsh investigation, and was thrown into the dirty, narrow, and unventilated cells for 14 days. My health condition has deteriorated due to the harsh life conditions in the cells and as I have infected with a virus. As a result, I was transferred to the detention clinic for treatment, and later tothe minor prisoners section in Megiddo Detention Center.

“The Israeli soldiers had beaten and tortured Amr Arar (18) and Mahmoud Muhareb, both from Ramallah, while they were arrested from the roads and investigated inside the Israeli investigation centers.” the commission’s lawyers reported.
