The Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission has reported a staggering 1,691 Israeli assaults across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, during the month of May 2025. This alarming figure reflects an intensification of violence, as both Israeli forces and settlers continue to impose terror on Palestinian communities in parallel with the war on Gaza.
According to the report, the Israeli army was responsible for 1,276 of these incidents, while settlers carried out 415 attacks. These included armed raids on Palestinian villages, field executions, home demolitions, land confiscation, and environmental destruction. The widespread imposition of roadblocks and barriers has further fragmented Palestinian towns and cities, eroding any sense of geographical continuity or normalcy.
Muayad Shaaban, head of the commission, condemned the settlers’ escalating campaign of theft and destruction, noting that 356 acts of vandalism were recorded, including the uprooting of over 1,000 trees, more than two-thirds of them olive trees, a symbol of Palestinian heritage and livelihood. He also revealed that settlers attempted to establish 15 illegal outposts last month alone, targeting agricultural and pastoral lands crucial to Palestinian survival.
Shaaban further highlighted the Israeli military’s seizure of 84 dunams of land through military orders and the demolition of 121 structures, including homes and agricultural facilities. Many families were forced not only to witness the destruction of their property but also to bear the financial burden of their own displacement.
As the Israeli onslaught on Gaza continues, fuelled by U.S. and European support, the violence in the West Bank has intensified. Since 7 October 2023, nearly 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed, more than 7,000 injured, and over 17,000 arrested. These figures are part of a broader picture of oppression and systematic dispossession that spans the entirety of the occupied Palestinian territories.
In the face of this dual-front assault, Palestinian officials warn that the international community's failure to act is enabling the entrenchment of a policy that openly disregards international law and basic human dignity.
