Gaza Faces Total Communications Blackout as Infrastructure Is Systematically Targeted

A total communications blackout now isolates the entire Gaza Strip, as the last remaining fibre-optic line was severed, cutting off internet and landline services for millions. The Palestinian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority confirmed that all regions, including Gaza City and the central and southern governorates, are now completely disconnected for the second consecutive day.

This deliberate targeting and systematic destruction of Gaza’s communications infrastructure have left civilians cut off from essential services such as medical aid, humanitarian support, education, and news, vital lifelines amid an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe. Despite repeated attempts by technical teams to repair the damage or activate alternative routes, Israeli forces have continually blocked access, preventing any meaningful restoration of service.

The Authority has warned of severe social and humanitarian consequences resulting from this blackout and called on international bodies to urgently intervene and ensure technicians can safely reach damaged sites to carry out repairs. However, the ongoing refusal by Israeli forces to permit these efforts only deepens Gaza’s isolation.

Since the start of the devastating conflict, Gaza’s communications networks have been repeatedly targeted, plunging the territory further into isolation and worsening the suffering of its people.
