Hundreds of Mauritanians gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott on Sunday night, denouncing Israeli military aggression in Gaza and Iran, attacks they say are enabled by unwavering American support.

The demonstration, which continued late into the evening, saw protesters chanting in solidarity with Gaza while also condemning Israel’s recent escalation against Iran. The crowd held the United States responsible for both the devastation in the besieged Palestinian territory and the regional instability provoked by Israeli strikes.

Organised by the Student Initiative Against Zionist Penetration and for the Defense of Just Causes, the protest reflected deep-rooted opposition in Mauritania to normalisation with Israel and renewed calls to sever ties with a system of occupation and war.

As voices rise across the Global South, Mauritanians joined a growing chorus demanding justice for Palestine and accountability for the powers fuelling its suffering.
