In a powerful act of moral resistance, Jewish activists in Chicago have launched an open-ended hunger strike, condemning the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza and the U.S. government’s complicity through military support. Led by members of Jewish Voice for Peace, the strike aims to demand an immediate end to arms exports to Israel and a full lifting of the siege that has pushed Palestinians into starvation and despair.
The hunger strike coincided with a major protest in downtown Chicago, where demonstrators rallied behind the “Stop Arming Israel Act,” currently being debated in Congress. Among the attendees was Representative Delia Ramirez, whose presence signalled a growing political will to challenge U.S. involvement in what protesters call war crimes.
For many Palestinians, this rare and courageous stance from within the American Jewish community offers a glimmer of solidarity in an otherwise dark chapter. The activists’ message is clear: being Jewish and standing against genocide are not contradictions, they are moral imperatives.
