Municipalities across central Gaza have been forced to suspend all essential services due to crippling fuel shortages caused by the ongoing Israeli blockade. Water pumping, sewage treatment, waste collection, and debris removal operations have ground to a halt, leaving millions at risk.
In a joint statement, local councils and the Solid Waste Management Council for southern governorates warned that critical infrastructure is failing as fuel deliveries remain blocked despite urgent appeals from both local and international bodies. The suspension of Mekorot water supplies since January 2025 and a prolonged power outage at the main desalination plant have further deepened the region’s water crisis, escalating public health and environmental dangers.
Authorities called on UN agencies and international organisations to urgently deliver fuel and reinstate water and electricity supplies to prevent a complete collapse of vital services in Gaza.
