Two Palestinian detainees in Israeli Ofer jail have tested positive for coronavirus, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
PPS said on Sunday that Hassan Mohammed Shahadeh from Bethlehem and Saleem Mohammed Idrees from Hebron, were infected with the virus and transferred by the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) to section 18, which has been designated for quarantine.
It affirmed that the increase in cases of infection among the detainees "is a significant indicator, and increases the possibility of the epidemic spreading more widely among them."
In addition, it said that the continuing daily detention, in addition to the prisoners' transfers from jail to another are the main reasons of being infected with the virus.
The Israeli jails continue to use the epidemic as a tool of suppression against the Palestinian detainees, by isolating them and depriving them of seeing their lawyers.
It is worth noting that seventeen cases have been recorded among Palestinian prisoners since the outbreak of the epidemic, including two released detainees whose infection was discovered a day after their release from Israeli jails.
