European Coalition for Palestinian Prisoners' Rights (ECPPR) welcomed the decision issued by the Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague, regarding Palestine as a recognized party in the territories occupied in 1967, namely Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
ECPPR considered in a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa, the ICC decision "is of great importance as it gives the Palestinians a powerful weapon to put an end to the practices of the occupation authorities that are above all international laws and norms."
It also considered it "an important opportunity to prosecute the Israelis, who commit daily crimes against the Palestinian people, including direct and indirect executions of civilians, demolishing Palestinian homes, confiscating their lands, inhuman treatment of prisoners, and violations of human rights laws in numerous crimes."
In addition, ECPPR called on the Palestinian institutions to make the best use of the decision to prosecute the occupation prison administration, "which does not give any consideration to international laws and agreements by continuing practicing administrative detention and detaining children, women and the elderly, in addition to ignoring prisoners sick with Coronavirus, cancer and chronic diseases."
