Israel committed 31 violations against female Palestinian journalists in 2020, says JSC

Approximately 31 violations were committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against female Palestinian journalists in 2020, said the Journalist Support Committee (JSC).

In its published report, JSC pointed out that nine female Palestinian journalists have been detained or summoned by Israeli occupation forces, adding that some of them were detained and summoned more than once last year.

The trial of Palestinian journalists Mayes Abu Ghoush and Bushra al-Tawil was postponed and journalist Sondos Owies was banned from accessing Al-Aqsa Mosque twice.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces attacked and beat Palestinian journalists Hanin al-Hilou and Ranin Sawafta and stormed the houses of Raniya Hatem and Laiyla Hamarsheh.

JSC underlined that the Israeli occupation army demolished the house of Palestinian journalist Wedad al-Barghouthi and threatened Kristen al-Rinawi and Heba al-Khoudari three times.

In addition, the Israeli occupation authorities forced Palestinian journalists Kristen al-Rinawi, Mayes Abu Ghoush, and Raniya Hatem to pay hefty fines.

The committee also noted that Israeli forces prevented dozens of female journalists from reporting and made threats against them.

According to the report, the Israeli occupation authorities also barred the journalists Sondos Oweis and Kristen al-Rinawi from working in occupied Jerusalem and banned Safinaz al-Louh from travelling abroad for treatment.

The forces confiscated the press card of Palestinian journalist Heba Masalha.
