Israel closes a section of Damon prison and transfers prisoners to another

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Committee reported Sunday that the Israeli authorities closed Section 1 of Damon Prison and transferred the prisoners held there to Section 4 of the same prison.

The committee indicated in its report that the child prisoners lived in difficult and insecure conditions for nearly a year and a half inside Section 1, as it is not suitable for human life at all.

The aforementioned section is an underground cellar full of insects and cockroaches, neither sun nor air enters it, its walls are worn and damp, and the bathrooms are outside the rooms, and there is a small semi-yard called the fora, but it is a passage between the door of the main section and the rooms, except about the stench of the section.

The committee pointed out that the young prisoners were initially held in Section 1 alone without administrative committees from the adult prisoners to represent them in front of the Israeli prisons administration. During that period they severely suffered, as the Damon administration singled out these minors and isolated them from the external environment and imposed many penalties against them.

After that, the Israeli prisons administration agreed to enter a number of adult prisoners to supervise life matters and manage the affairs of the young prisoners.

The committee had demanded several times, through its legal unit, from the Damon administration to close Section 1, which is with catastrophic conditions, but the detention administration was refusing each time.

It is noteworthy that the number of prisoners currently languishing in Section 4, to which the Cubs were recently transferred, has reached 28, including 23 minors and 5 adult prisoners.
