EU confirms its support for holding elections, especially in Jerusalem


The European Union on Tuesday affirmed its support for holding elections in all Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

This was stated by the EU representative in Palestine, Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff, when he was received by the President of the Central Election Commission, Dr. Hanna Nasir, at the headquarters of the Commission in Al-Bireh.

According to the statement of the Elections Commission that reached Safa, Burgsdorf praised the work of the Central Elections Commission in preparing for fair, transparent, and democratic elections, calling on all parties to make all efforts to make this process a success.

The President of the Election Commission, Hanna Nasir, briefed the representative of the European Union on the commission’s preparations and efforts to complete the elections and reviewed the stages of the electoral process leading to the candidacy phase for the 2021 Legislative Council elections that will end today, Wednesday.

During the meeting, they discussed potential Israeli obstacles to holding elections, especially in Jerusalem.

Hanna called on the European Union to pressure the Israeli side to implement the signed agreements that allow Jerusalemites to participate in the elections in Jerusalem.
