Hamas wants to unify Palestinians and participate in elections, says Hamas chief

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas phoned Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and briefed him on developments concerning the Palestinian cause.

In the phone calls, Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh confirmed the movement’s determination to go for the elections in a bid to heal the Palestinian division on the basis of partnership and democracy.

“Hamas wants to unify the Palestinian people and participate in the legislative, presidential, and National Council elections,” said Hamas chief.

In addition, Haniyeh confirmed that “Hamas will form a national unity government with Fatah and other faction even if the movement wins the elections.”

He also confirmed that Jerusalem will be an “integral part of the electoral process”, calling on the Turkish president to pressure the Israeli occupation in order not to intervene in the elections.

In turn, the Turkish president thanked Haniyeh for such endeavours and stressed the need for national unity to strengthen their political positions.
