PFLP warns using issue of elections in Jerusalem as a pretext to cancel it

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine emphasized the need for the Jerusalemites to participate in the upcoming elections, in light of the recent increase in the frequency of statements by many Palestinian leaderships to refuse to hold elections without Jerusalem.

At the same time, the PFLP warned against attempts by some forces to make the issue of the occupation’s rejection of the Jerusalemites’s participation in these elections an excuse to cancel the elections.

“The elections should be the essential foundation for managing the clash of the Palestinian people with the Israelis over Jerusalem without waiting for permission from the Israeli government,” PF;P said in a statement reasched Safa.

This issue specifically constitutes a criterion for the seriousness of the organization's leadership and its intention to hold elections, on the one hand, and on the other a test of the democratization of the organization's leadership and the imperatives to break with the security, political and economic obligations of the Oslo Agreement.

The PFLP called on the Palestinian people to get ready to impose their will through the widest participation in the electoral process.

Besides, it called for the necessity of confronting any attempts or measures by the Israeli forces to prevent participation in these elections, as one of the mechanisms of self-determination for the Palestinian people, and to affirm their continued struggle to extend sovereignty over Jerusalem and emphasize its Arabic character.

The PFLP also called on the international community to stop the policy of double standards in matters related to the issues of peoples fighting for their freedom, by translating its elegant and beautiful words about the reality of that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine.

It is considered that the international legitimacy decisions bear the responsibilities of implementing the international community to pressure the Israeli government to respect these decisions that express its will to implement them.

If the international community is unable to do so, it should stop exerting pressure on the Palestinian leadership and stop pursuing Palestinian activists and defenders of the freedom of their people in honor of the Zionist lobby in this or that country.
