Mansour: Israeli occupation keeps imposing restrictions over Palestinians holy places... even in Ramadan

Riyad Mansour, the Deputy Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, stated that the Israeli occupation authorities' violations against the Palestinians, holy places, freedom of worship, and the practice of democratic rights violate the international law and all UN resolutions related to Jerusalem.

Mansour said that those violations desecrated Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jordan's guardianship over the Christian and Islamic holy places in the town, and noted the restrictions over the mosque continue even in Ramadan.

This came in three letters to the United Nations Secretariat, President of the Security Council, and President of the UN General Assembly about "the escalation of tensions in Jerusalem due to Israel's ongoing violations against the Palestinians, holy places and freedom of worship."

Mansour talked about Israel's confiscation of Iftar meals, the raids into Al-Aqsa mosque, and intimidation of the mosque's employees which result in clashes and injuries.

He also mentioned Israel's ongoing attempts to intervene in the Palestinian democratic process of elections in Jerusalem, the arrest of several nominees in the West Bank, and restrictions imposed on Adnan Gaith, Jerusalem's governor.

He confirmed that those procedures disclose the bad intentions of Israel to undermine the participation of Jerusalem's citizens and its candidates in the upcoming elections as this will impede their right to participate in the democratic national process.

Mansour called on the international society to commit to the international law and Security Council to implement their relative decisions.

He emphasized the importance of the international society to force Israel to stop its violations in the occupied Palestinian lands, including Jerusalem, and its attacks against the holy places by the extremist settlers.

Mansour called for actions to stop the Israeli restrictions that impede the Jerusalemites' participation in the elections.
