In July 2025, Palestinians faced a surge in digital rights violations, with over 929 incidents reported by the Sada Social Center for Digital Rights amid heightened Israeli repression. These abuses, ranging from content removals to account suspensions, targeted Palestinians and supporters across major platforms, particularly Instagram and Facebook, highlighting a systematic campaign to silence Palestinian voices online.
Instagram bore the brunt, accounting for nearly 60% of violations, followed by Facebook at almost 29%, with X and WhatsApp also implicated. The violations included not only censorship of Palestinian content but also digital attacks against journalists and activists, including attempted hacking and identity theft, notably against journalist Anas Al-Sharif and activist Mahmoud Zaiter.
Sada Social emphasises that these measures form part of a wider strategy to suppress the Palestinian narrative and restrict free expression under the guise of platform policies. The centre calls for urgent accountability from tech companies and stronger legal safeguards to protect Palestinian journalists and digital activists from ongoing repression in the digital realm.
