Foreign Ministry condemns Israeli violence against Palestinian worshipers

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday that the continuous aggression carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against Jerusalem and its sanctities, foremost of which is the Al-Aqsa Mosque, represents a flagrant challenge to international resolutions and law.

The ministry underlined in a statement that this constitutes a violation against all relevant UN resolutions, especially those of the Security Council, the General Assembly of the United Nations and UNESCO, and the principles of human rights, foremost among which is the right to worship and to access places of worship with complete freedom.

It strongly condemned the measures taken by the occupation forces to prevent worshipers from reaching the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

The statement added that the occupation’s condition that a Palestinian citizen must obtain a permit to pray in Al-Aqsa is a new confirmation of the occupation’s arrogance.

Meanwhile, the ministry held the Israeli government fully and directly responsible for this escalation, which aims to change the legal and historical status quo in the mosque, and also aims to steal the powers and functions of the Islamic endowments.

It also called on the international community to take swift and urgent action to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem and to take measures imposed by international law to guarantee freedom of worship for Muslims in the Holy Mosque.
