Shtayyeh: we continue efforts with international partners to conduct elections in Jerusalem

Prime Minister of Palestine, Mohammed Shtayyeh, stated on Monday that his government keeps making efforts with international partners to remove the barriers and ease the conduct of elections in Jerusalem.

Shtayyeh confirmed the importance of helping the international partners conduct the elections in Jerusalem in time and according to the mechanism followed in 1996, 2005, and 2006.

He mentioned that the minister of Foreign Affairs will visit Brussels to recruit the international community to support the Palestinian position regarding the elections in Jerusalem.

Shtayyeh condemned the Israeli attacks against the prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque, noting that those attacks pave the way for a spatial and temporal segmentation.

Regarding the coronavirus, Shtayyeh declared that new waves of the COVID19 vaccine will arrive in the next weeks, and noted that the elderly people, educational staff, and patients will be prioritized to receive the vaccine.

In another context, he called on the UN administration to intervene to stop the settlement project which includes the establishment of 12.000 settlement units in the West Bank and 450 units in Jabal Abu Ghneim in Jerusalem.

He also announced the start of developing a fund aiming at supporting the economic sectors and empowering a larger audience.

The fund includes projects in e-learning, digital transformation, and microfinance organizations.

The fund's size is about $435 millions; $225 millions for the recovery of the coronavirus, and $200 million to encourage the economy in the sectors of agriculture, power and information technology.
