Hemaya condemns arresting journalist Al-Rimawi

Hemaya Center for Human Rights condemned the decisions of the Israeli authorities to administratively detain Alaa Hassan al-Rimawi, 43, for 3-month administrative detention, in a clear violation of the provisions of international law.

The Israeli authorities issued a decision to administratively detain the Palestinian journalist Alaa Hassan al-Rimawi, for three months, as the Israeli forces stormed his home in the city of al-Bireh in the central West Bank at dawn on Wednesday and took him to the Etzion detention center, south of Bethlehem.

As his health condition deteriorated and he was vomiting blood, Al-Rimawi was transferred to Ofer detention center, west of Ramallah. Besides, Al-Rimawi continues his open-ended hunger strike for the sixth consecutive day.

The Center affirmed that journalistic work is guaranteed and freedom of the press is protected by the provisions and rules of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

Also, the International Committee of the Red Cross was called to take urgent action to save the life of the journalist al-Rimawi, as well as all international bodies and organizations were called on to carry out their legal and moral duty towards Palestinian journalists.

The Center called on the international community and the states contracting to the Geneva Conventions to take urgent action to end the suffering of Palestinian prisoners and detainees and to stop the policy of collective punishment against them.
