President Mahmoud Abbas received Sven Burgsdorff, the EU representative, Wednesday in the presidential residence. 

Abbas briefed Burgsdorff on the latest developments regarding the conditions in the Palestinian territories, and the efforts made by the Palestinian leadership to conduct elections in whole Palestine, including Jerusalem. 

He confirmed the importance of the EU continuing to put pressure on the Israeli government to conduct elections in occupied Jerusalem, according to the internationally sponsored agreements signed between both sides.

Abbas thanked the European Union for the political and economic support it provided. 

The representative of the EU confirmed Europe's support for the conduct of elections and that the European Union continues its intense calls with Israel to conduct elections in eastern Jerusalem. 

A group of leaders from the Palestinian Authority and the European Union attended the meeting.
