Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of Hamas, phoned the Turkish president, Tayyib Erdogan, today evening and briefed him on the latest developments of Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Israel's plans to displace the Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
Haniyeh confirmed during the call that they and their people decided to defend Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
"This is not the battle of Jerusalemites only. It is the battle of every Palestinian; the battle of all Islamic states," he said.
He also said that he will not allow the holy city's culture and history to be changed or deleted.
"The Israeli occupation did not respect the holy month of Ramadan. They put barriers near the gates leading Al-Aqsa mosque and committed several raids into it, but we will give up on Jerusalem as our people will defend it with their blood and souls," Haniyeh said.
He also appreciated Turkey's position on supporting Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa mosque.
Erdogan, on the other hand, confirmed that his country started to call several international sides and the Islamic cooperation organization to discuss the latest developments.
"We will make everything we can," Erdogan said.
