Israel forces detain leader in Hamas in West Bank

Israeli forces on Friday at dawn detained Hassan Yousef, 64, a senior Hamas leader in the West Bank city of Beitonya.

The Israeli forces raided Beitonya city and broke into the house of Yousef, before detaining and sending him to Ofer jail.

Yousef was released in July 2020 after spending 15 months in Israeli jails. He spent a total of 21 years in Israeli jails, mostly under administrative detention.

He suffers from several chronic diseases, including hypertension and diabetes, and needs continuous medical care.

There are about 350 Palestinians held in Israeli jails under administrative detention, a policy that the Israeli authorities use to hold Palestinians without a charge or trial.
