Concerns over situation of Al-Akhras, hunger striking detainee

The Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras has been on hunger strike for almost 75 days in protest of his administrative detention without charge or trial.

Waed Society for Detainees and Ex- Detainees has warned of the serious health condition of Al-Akhras and said that he may die in any moment.

The Society confirmed in a statement, a copy of which obtained by SAFA on Thursday evening, that the Israeli prison administration attempts to practice an act of deception and gives unacceptable solutions that do not meet with the detainee's demands.

For her part, Taghreed Al-Akhras, Maher's wife, began on Wednesday a hunger strike in Kaplan Medical Center in solidarity with her husband, who was urgently moved to Kaplan due to the severe health deterioration, as his vital organs are failing.

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees stated that Al-Akhras is going through very difficult health conditions as he refuses to get the medical treatment and supplies.

Al-Akhras, a 49-year-old father of six children from the Jenin-district town of Silat al-Dahr, was detained on July 27, 2020, and has been sentenced to four months in administrative detention without charge or trial.
