Palestinian journalists sent the UN Refugees Agency an urgent appeal on Monday, calling it to provide them with protection as they have been attacked by the security forces during protests against the assassination of Nezar Banat.
Dozens of journalists organized a stand in front of the United Nations Headquarters in Ramallah and launched a special appeal to the UN High Commissioner James Hainan, calling him to take the necessary procedures and provide them with personal and professional protection.
The journalist Naela Khaleel gave a speech during the stand, saying "journalism's freedom is threatened after many journalists were beaten, chased, humiliated and injured."
Khaleel confirmed that many journalists were imposed to attempts of preventing them from taking pictures and videos by seizing their mobiles and destroying cameras.
Khaleel also mentioned the journalists' exposure to insults, threats, deprivation of covering events, and confrontations by the forces.
She also noted that most of those attacked were committed by persons wearing civil clothes.
