Palestinian General Federation of Trade Union called, on Sunday, on the United Nations and the international institutions to take responsibility and press on Israel to open the border crossings and end the blockade imposed on Gaza for more than 15 years.
This came in a press conference the Union organized near Erez crossing in the north of Gaza, where dozens of affected laborers and workers participated.
The participants raised slogans demanding the United Nations not to neglect the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the free people all over the world to support the laborers in Gaza.
Khaled Hussein, a Board member, said that the Israeli occupation has been closing the border crossings in Gaza for 50 days and preventing the entry of goods into Gaza, resulting in a big humanitarian crisis.
Hussein stated that the rate of poverty resulting from the blockade imposed on Gaza reached more than 80%, while the rate of unemployment reached 60%.
He noted that the number of unemployed people reached about 270 000 as a result of the blockade and the Israeli wars launched in Gaza.
He called on starting the reconstruction of Gaza as soon as possible to relieve the catastrophic living conditions in Gaza.
"The Palestinian Authority has to take responsibility for administrating Gaza's affairs," he said.
The union called on the global boycott movements to expand the boycott campaigns of the Israeli products.
It wondered about the role of the United Nations and the International Security Council in this catastrophic humanitarian misery caused by the Israeli occupation in Gaza.
It called on the human rights organization to take legal actions against the Israeli occupation that commits war crimes by cutting preventing the entry of basic needs and goods into Gaza.
The occupation authorities have been closing Karam Abo Salem and Beit-Hanoun crossings for more than 50 days.
The Israeli occupation launched a war on Gaza on May 10, which lasted for 11 days resulting in 260 martyrs, thousands of injuries, and deconstruction of public, governmental, and residential buildings.
