The Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouti, affirmed his movement's rejection of the method of conducting municipal elections.
In a brief statement reached Safa, Barghouti demanded that comprehensive municipal elections be held for all Palestinian lands and that they should not be divided.
He also stressed that the municipal elections are not an alternative for the legislative, presidential, and National Assembly elections that have been suspended.
A group of Palestinian factions announced their refusal to hold municipal elections, stressing that what the Palestinian government is doing is a uniqueness in the decision.
In response to the announcement of the elections, the factions warned of the consequences of their implementation on the internal Palestinian situation in light of the state of Fatah-Hamas division.
