Hamas spokesperson Dr Abdullatif Al-Qanoa said that the Israeli envoy to the United Nations must be held accountable for tearing up the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)’s annual report.
The Israeli ambassador tore to pieces the UNHRC’s annual report at the UN General Assembly last Friday.
The report released by the UN body condemned the Israeli occupation colonial settlement policy in the West Bank. “The construction of the wall being built by Israel, the occupying power, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in and around East Jerusalem, and its associated regime are contrary to international law.”
The Hamas spokesperson described the Israeli ambassador’s behavior at the UN General Assembly as “arrogant”.
“The world must stop the double standard policy… and deter the Israeli occupation,” Al-Qanoa said.
Al-Qanoa noted that the UNHRC’s report confirms that the UN body should probe the Israeli occupation’s crimes committed during the latest Israeli offensive against Gaza last May. “This should be a step leading to holding Israeli leaders accountable.”
