Ramon prison administration slowly kills two Palestinian detainees

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Committee said that the Ramon prison administration is practicing a policy of slow killing against the two prisoners, Muhammad Daoud and Salam Zaghal.

The Committee added in a press statement on Monday that the prisoner Daoud, 34, from Qalqilya Governorate, suffers from a difficult health condition, psoriasis, and dental and stomach problems. As a result, he underwent an operation in 2019 in the Israeli Asaf Harofeh hospital, due to a stomach rupture, during which a mesh was placed inside it.

The lawyer of the Committee quoted the prisoner as saying: "The mesh that was placed was pressing on the stomach and intestines, and two years after the operation, he began to feel severe stomach aches."

He stated that after examinations, a second operation was performed for the prisoner Daoud on August 16, 2021, where 50 cm of his intestines were removed. In addition, he needs dental implants, but the prison administration refuses.

Prisoner Daoud was arrested on December 8, 1987, and sentenced to life imprionment. He is one of the prisoners detained before the Oslo Accords. Israel refused to include him in the list of prisoners who were released and arrested before Oslo.

The prisoner, Salam Asaad Zaghal, from Tulkarm, who is sentenced to life imprisonment, suffers from a stomach injury, as a result of being shot when he was arrested. In addition, he was injured in the left leg, which led to a shortening of the foot by 3 cm. After which, he underwent two operations, and he needs a special medical shoe to be able to walk.
