Egypt condemns Israel's building of new settlement units

Egypt on Monday condemned a new Israeli bid to build 1257 new settlement units in East Jerusalem, and considered it a violation of international law's decisions and Security Council resolutions.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said in a statement that the decision cast doubt on Israel's willingness to reach a final settlement with the Palestinians, and also indicates an Israeli evasion from peace requirements.

The Israeli ministry of Construction and Housing announced, on Sunday, its seeking bids for construction of about 1257 new apartments in South Jerusalem.

The tenders will be in three Jewish communities in East Jerusalem's and they are expected to be finished in two or three years, according WALA Hebrew website.
