Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor: Israel’s Urbicide Expands as a Genocidal Tool in Gaza

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has denounced Israel's systematic destruction of Palestinian cities in Gaza, calling it an act of genocide that has unfolded over the past 14 months. This destruction not only targets lives but also erases the architectural and cultural identity of Palestinians, forcing displacement and dismantling their connection to the land.

Evidence gathered by the Monitor reveals that the Israeli military employs various methods, including aerial bombardment, explosives, bulldozers, and robotics, to raze entire neighbourhoods. Northern Gaza, including areas such as Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, and Al-Saftawi, has been almost entirely destroyed, with no justification under international law.

The Monitor stressed that this "urbicide" aims to obliterate Palestinian cultural and historical traces, paving the way for illegal settlements. It called on the international community to halt these crimes, enforce international law, impose sanctions on Israel, and cease all forms of political, financial, and military support.

Additionally, the Monitor urged accountability for countries complicit in these crimes, particularly the United States, for providing direct or indirect assistance that facilitates ongoing atrocities. Immediate action is needed to prevent further loss of life and protect Gaza’s cultural and human existence.
