Winter Supplies Trapped by Bureaucracy: Gaza's Children Face Freezing Deaths

Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, sounded the alarm on the dire conditions in Gaza, where children are succumbing to freezing temperatures due to a lack of shelter and basic winter supplies.

In a press statement on Friday, Lazzarini emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and the immediate delivery of essential aid, including blankets and winter supplies, which have been stuck for months awaiting "Israeli" approval.

Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians, forced from their homes by relentless Israeli aggression, are enduring severe cold in makeshift camps. Many are experiencing joint pain and nosebleeds as they struggle to cope with the harsh conditions.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has highlighted the plight of children who fled Israeli bombardments in summer clothing and now face winter's chill with little to keep them warm. These vulnerable children are at risk of hypothermia, with many wearing only light clothing in freezing temperatures.

The United Nations has warned that those sheltering in temporary camps may not survive the winter. At least 945,000 people urgently require winter supplies, yet the scarcity of resources and skyrocketing prices in Gaza make these essentials unattainable for most.

Meanwhile, "Israel" persists in its aggression against Gaza, continuing an unrelenting war that has entered its 449th consecutive day. The conflict has been marked by war crimes, massacres, and efforts to forcibly displace residents from northern Gaza, compounding the humanitarian catastrophe.

The international community's call for a ceasefire and unfettered humanitarian access has never been more critical, as Gaza's children face the deadly consequences of both war and winter.
