A UN resolution adopted the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, during the Third Committee, the “Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs Committee” of the United Nations General Assembly, yesterday.
With a vote requested on the draft resolution, the Assembly adopted that text by a recorded vote of 163 in favour to 5 against (Israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, United States), with 10 abstentions.
By its terms, the Assembly reaffirmed the right of Palestinians to self‑determination, including to an independent State of Palestine, and urge all States and United Nations agencies to continue to support Palestinians in the early realization of that right.
