Palestinian detainee Nael al-Barghouti enters today his 41st year in Israeli jails, making him an icon of freedom struggle against a colonial power, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said.

Hailing his steadfastness in the face of the Israeli jailer, the Hamas spokesperson indicated that al-Barghouti is an example of sacrifice for the sake of liberty and independence.

As for Nelson Mandela, Palestinian prisoners will not surrender until embracing their aspirations to freedom and independence, Qasem added.

He also confirmed that freeing the Palestinian detainees is a top priority for resistance and the entire Palestinian people.
