Journalists Protection: Gaza’s Fallen Journalists Surpass WWII Victims

The Palestinian Journalists’ Protection Centre (PJPC) reported that the number of journalists killed in Gaza during the Israeli war exceeds three times the number of journalist casualties during the Second World War.
In a statement marking Palestinian Journalist Loyalty Day on December 31, the PJPC warned of the long-term impact of the war on journalism in Palestine and the broader region. The centre called for urgent international intervention to halt Israeli crimes against Palestinian journalists, who face a relentless campaign aimed at silencing their voices and obstructing the truth.
The PJPC urged the international community to fulfil its responsibilities, demanding immediate action to ensure the safety of Palestinian journalists, hold Israel accountable for violations, and secure the release of detained journalists.
Since the start of Israel's assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, deliberate attacks on Palestinian journalists have intensified, including killings, arrests, and bombings of press offices and vehicles. To date, Israeli airstrikes have claimed the lives of 201 journalists.
