Israeli media sources have reported that the “Nahal” Brigade of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) lost its reconnaissance battalion during the detonation of a booby-trapped building in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, on Monday.
Channel 12 of Israel stated that the five soldiers killed in a Palestinian resistance operation in Beit Hanoun were part of the “Z1” team within the “Sayeret Nahal” unit, the reconnaissance battalion of the Nahal Brigade. The “Z1” team consists of 17 soldiers, 13 of whom were either killed or severely injured during the fighting in Gaza.
On Monday, Israeli media reported the deaths of five soldiers from the Nahal Brigade and the injuries of 30 others after a multi-story booby-trapped building collapsed onto the soldiers when it was detonated by resistance fighters.
The IDF announced that all the deceased were from the Nahal Brigade, including a captain, who were identified as Captain Yair Yaakov Shushan, Sergeant Major Yahav Hadir, Sergeant Major Guy Karmi’el, Sergeant Major Yoav Biber, and Sergeant Major Aviel Weissman.
As of today, the total number of Israeli soldiers killed since the outbreak of the war on October 7 stands at 835, in addition to thousands of wounded and physically and mentally disabled, according to official data released by the IDF. The Israeli army faces local accusations of concealing a larger death and injury toll.
