90% of Residential Communities in Rafah City Erased: A Heartbreaking Loss

Rafah City, once a thriving community in the southern Gaza Strip, now stands in ruins after the recent Israeli aggression. In a poignant statement, the Mayor of Rafah, Ahmed Al-Soufi, described the city as a "tragic scene of destruction," where entire residential areas have been wiped out, leaving nothing but rubble and desolation. The relentless bombing and shelling have devastated the city, and Al-Soufi emphasized that the scale of the destruction is beyond words.

Initial assessments from local authorities reveal that an estimated 90% of Rafah's residential neighborhoods have been completely obliterated. The city's infrastructure, which once housed tens of thousands of families, has been reduced to nothing more than dust and debris. In addition to the widespread destruction of homes, the Mayor confirmed that 30 municipal offices were also destroyed, further crippling the city's ability to provide essential services to its already suffering population.

The Israeli occupation forces have targeted vital resources, compounding the suffering of the people of Rafah. Fifteen water wells have been destroyed, leaving the city without a reliable water supply, which is critical for both daily survival and sanitation. The destruction of these wells has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian crisis, making it even harder for the people of Rafah to access basic necessities.

In a further blow to the city's healthcare system, nine medical centers have been rendered inoperable by the attacks, including four major hospitals. This has left the population with limited access to medical care, especially as the city faces an unprecedented number of casualties due to the ongoing violence. The destruction of healthcare facilities means that the most vulnerable—women, children, and the elderly—are now deprived of the life-saving treatment they desperately need.

The people of Rafah are now facing not only the immediate effects of violence but also the long-term consequences of the widespread devastation. With the destruction of homes, medical infrastructure, and essential resources, the future for this community looks uncertain. Despite these overwhelming challenges, the resilience of the people of Rafah continues to shine through as they endure unimaginable hardship, hoping for an end to the siege and a chance to rebuild their lives.
