Israeli government spokesperson David Menser announced on Monday that Hamas will hand over eight bodies as part of the detainees set to be released in the coming weeks during the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Menser stated during a press conference, "Families have been informed about the status of their relatives," without disclosing names.
Hamas is still expected to release 26 detainees in the first phase, with 18 confirmed to be alive.
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect on January 19, ending more than 15 months of war that began on October 7, 2023.
Under the first phase of the agreement, 33 detainees are to be released in exchange for over 1,900 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Since the start of the truce, Hamas has handed over seven Israeli women, including four soldiers, while Israel has released 290 Palestinian prisoners.
