The Government Media Office in Gaza announced on Tuesday the entry of a limited quantity of cooking gas into Gaza and the northern governorates, for the first time since the beginning of the genocide launched by the Israeli occupation against the people of Gaza.
In a statement received by the Palestinian Information Center, the office clarified that the entire quantity will be distributed to citizens based on the database of the electronic system supervised by the General Petroleum Authority. This process follows the same procedure applied in the central and southern governorates of Gaza, with distributors providing 8 kg refills at a price of 55 shekels.
The statement added that the gas refilling process will be handled by the distributor assigned through the system during registration, and citizens will receive a notification on their mobile phones.
On January 19, the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect. The agreement consists of three phases, each lasting 42 days, during which negotiations will take place to proceed to the second and third phases, ultimately ending the genocide.
Since October 7, 2023, when the genocide in Gaza began and lasted for 15 months, the Israeli occupation authorities have blocked the entry of fuel and cooking gas into Gaza and the northern governorates. This forced residents to rely on firewood for cooking.
The use of firewood has caused a spike in air pollution levels, exacerbating health risks, particularly for children and the elderly, exposing them to severe respiratory illnesses.
