The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner Society announced that the Israeli authorities handed over a list of 69 detainees from the Gaza Strip, while the fate of thousands of Palestinians arrested by the occupation since its invasion of the region remains unknown.
In a joint statement, the two organizations stated that the list of detainees they received includes the places of their detention in Israeli prisons and camps. However, they noted that they had not received any information regarding other detainees and would continue to investigate their fate a month after the Israeli military's last response, stating that no information was available about them.
The organizations stated that the only available data regarding Gaza detainees is what was admitted by the Israeli prison administration in early January 2025, which listed 1,886 detainees categorized as "illegal combatants," including women and children. Hundreds of others remain victims of enforced disappearance.
The organizations estimated that the number of detainees from Gaza is in the thousands and confirmed that the occupation continues to commit systematic torture crimes against them, leading to the martyrdom of dozens.
The Israeli Prison Service estimates the presence of over 9,000 Palestinian prisoners, but there is no official tally for the number of detainees from Gaza.
Since the invasion of Gaza on October 27, 2023, the Israeli army has arrested thousands of Palestinians, including women and children, with a small number later released. The fate of the others remains unknown, amid reports of systematic torture against the detainees.
