In the early hours of Sunday morning, settlers set fire to the mosque of Arab al-Mleihat village, north of Jericho, in addition to burning a tractor in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that settlers infiltrated the village in a vehicle, set fire to the mosque and the tractor, and then withdrew from the scene.
Video footage showed flames completely engulfing the mosque, particularly as the area suffers from limited access for firefighting and civil defense teams.
The Arab al-Mleihat community in al-Ma’arajat has been repeatedly attacked by settlers, who assault residents, vandalize their properties, and steal or kill their livestock.
The residents of al-Ma’arajat face a daily and existential struggle against settlers carrying out the Israeli government's plans aimed at displacing Palestinian villagers in the West Bank, particularly in the Jordan Valley, Masafer Yatta, and Nablus.
Settler attacks on mosques in the West Bank have been recurrent, the most recent being on December 20, 2024, when settlers burned down the "Bir al-Walidayn" mosque in the village of Marda near Salfit, in the northern occupied West Bank, and sprayed racist graffiti on its walls.
The fire consumed large parts of the mosque before residents managed to extinguish it. They noted that settlers had written racist slogans on the mosque’s walls, including "Death to Arabs."
