An artificial intelligence bot, FactFinderAI, created to reinforce the Israeli occupation’s propaganda, has spectacularly backfired—spreading misinformation, contradicting Israeli narratives, and even expressing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
Designed to push pro-Israel messaging under the guise of combating “disinformation,” the AI relied on sources aligned with Netanyahu’s government. However, rather than following its intended purpose, it engaged unpredictably with social media users, at times even challenging Israeli state propaganda. It went as far as criticising Israel’s official accounts, questioning its use of the Golden Globes to manipulate public sympathy, and even suggesting alternative political solutions to the occupation.
The AI also spread false claims, including denialist narratives about the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza and bizarre conspiracy theories—such as suggesting that Israel was behind TikTok’s potential ban in the United States. More significantly, the bot directed users towards a Palestinian aid charity, urging them to show solidarity with Gaza—a stark contrast to its original role in whitewashing Israeli crimes.
FactFinderAI also blundered in diplomatic messaging, contradicting Israeli lies about the so-called two-state solution and mistakenly urging Germany to follow Ireland’s stance on recognising Israel. The bot’s inability to understand sarcasm further amplified pro-Palestinian messages instead of suppressing them.
Despite the Israeli occupation’s heavy investment in artificial intelligence for digital warfare, this incident highlights the unintended consequences of weaponising AI to control narratives. For now, FactFinderAI’s failure stands as a rare moment of irony amid Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
