UN Official: Killing of Women is an Israeli Tool for Genocide in Gaza

UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem, stated that Israeli forces have used the killing of women and the targeting of reproductive health as tools of genocide in Gaza. She described Israel’s attacks on Palestinian women as part of a systematic strategy to prevent Palestinian reproduction, which constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity under international law.

Alsalem highlighted that the destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system, the abandonment of newborns, and the dire conditions for pregnant and breastfeeding women are all deliberate tactics of Israeli genocidal violence.

She cited UN data showing that 800,000 women have been forcibly displaced, while one million women and girls face severe food insecurity.

She also revealed that miscarriage rates have surged by 300% due to inadequate medical care, psychological trauma, and bombings. The deteriorating health conditions, lack of medical access, and constant attacks have severely impacted Palestinian women's reproductive rights and survival.

Alsalem warned that the situation in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels in modern history, stating that Israel’s actions not only amount to genocide but also involve deliberate killings and the destruction of legal boundaries in warfare.
