A leaked Hamas document reveals that military leader Mohammed Deif, not Yahya Sinwar, authorized the October 7, 2023 attack.

According to Hebrew media, Deif distributed the operational plan to about 25 senior commanders on September 23 two weeks before the assault, debunking claims that orders were issued just a day prior.  

The plan detailed attack waves, troop deployment, and targets while avoiding Israeli intelligence detection. It included rocket barrages, gliders, drones, and a ground invasion of Israeli towns.  

Israeli intelligence failed to intercept the plan despite a  September 27 security meeting misjudging Hamas's intentions.

Haaretz  criticized Israel’s intelligence shortcomings, while footage from Ma Khfi A'atham showed Deif leading final preparations, contradicting claims that he was incapacitated.
